The exhibition, curated by Francesco Tedeschi and organised in collaboration with the Piero Dorazio Archive, highlights some of the key moments of Piero Dorazio’s activity between the 1950s and 1960s, when his artistic position is clearly established in its uniqueness.
\nThe exhibition presents a selection of Dorazio’s works belonging to the Intesa Sanpaolo collection, rounded off by a work lent by the Fondazione Prada, which marks a point of connection between two moments of Dorazio’s painting during the 1960s.
\nAt the end of the 1950s Dorazio’s painting conquered the idea of the surface as a continuous field, within which the autonomous force of colour, space and shape of light reverberated, as Giuseppe Ungaretti emphasized: “In those fabrics, or rather membranes, of a uniform nature, almost monochrome and also intertwined with threads of different colours, of coloured rays, the alveolus, custodians of pupils full of light, armed with stings of light, open inside the thick honeycombs” (1966).
\nBeyond that period, which reached its peak in his exhibition room at the Venice Biennale of 1960, a renewal of the forms of colour as a medium blossomed, generating solutions across the territories of fantasy, in the works that from the mid-1960s onwards, expanding the idea of colour bands as an infinite source of movement. Works such as Allaccio A<\/em> (1966) establish the new vision of a colour that expands into the atmosphere, reverberating outside into space or producing new territories of vision, in which the constructions of the late 1960s, such as Serpente<\/em> (1968) or Chocolate Paradise<\/em> (1970), echo the voices of a utopian optimism, typical of that period.
\nFrom Plasticit\u00e0<\/em> (1949) \u2013 one of the canvases that mark his adoption of the languages of abstraction in the first part of the century \u2013 to two works that followed during the 1980s, the proposed sequence intends to underline the circularity of a language that asserts itself in its absolute quality in the panorama of contemporaneity.<\/p>\n
